I am an accountant in my busy tax season right now so I can't put in as much effort as I would like to, but I have noticed my ear is tuning in to the sounds of pitches better and I believe my singing is more on pitch. I am 54 and played guitar ( but could not sing in key ) when I was in High School and played in a dance band for a few years. When I got married I put the guitar away for about 25 years but in the past 4 years have picked it up again and decided that I would learn to sing so I took lessons for a bit but now am working on it on my own. When I saw Absolute Pitch Power on the internet I felt that this would very much help my singing as well as my guitar playing hence I ordered it ( I have recently ordered Brett Mannings singing course as well, talk about biting off a lot to chew ). Even though I have not yet completed the whole Absolute Pitch Power Course, I have noticed excellent results!!! I can hear and Identify musical pitches and non musical pitches such as car horns, squeaks of someone pushing in their chair, etc.! It's amazing. Wow! I've only been using Absolute Pitch Power for a little while and already I can play along with amazing chords to the music other people are playing. It's like a party trick of mine now. Someone plays a note, a chord or even a triad on a piano and I can name it! I play piano, cello, I sing, it's helped me in all of those instruments. And my teachers have noticed how much more in tune I am on my cello and when I sing! I can pick up new music easier. Apart from the musical benefits, it has also helped me relax incredibly, and of course, now the stress of having to work hard to keep in tune has gone, life just seems so easy! I am an accountant in my busy tax season right now so I can't put in as much effort as I would like to, but I have noticed my ear is tuning in to the sounds of pitches better and I believe my singing is more on pitch. I can't count the number of times I wanted to throw in the towel. One time — a few years into my life as a pro musician — things got so bad I had to get a lousy job pumping gas just to stay afloat. I can remember going out from behind the bullet proof glass in 10 degree below zero weather to change the windshield washer fluid next to pump number 6 saying to myself, "You have got to make this music thing work or you will die here!"

But one day, it felt like a lightening bolt hit me on the head! I realized the answer to getting the best paying gigs had been in front of me all the time. It's just that I had spent so much time looking backwards, moaning and groaning and feeling sorry for myself, that I was missing the easy answer that had been there all along.

Just think about it. What do you think the most in-demand player's voice mail sounds like on any given day?

The reason they get called for all the best paying gigs is because they're the "baddest" cats around! Here's what makes them so great...

Music is all about the ear. You could have the fastest chops in a 3,000 mile radius but if your playing is off-key, then forget about it. As Donald Trump would say, "You're fired!" And they don't tell you that you're fired, you find out when you show up for practice and there's someone else standing in your spot!

Yep, the greatest musicians are the ones who hear the greatest music — period. And it takes a great ear to hear great music. Think of your hearing as a window. Right now, you have the shades drawn. If you've already done some ear training, then it's more like opening the venetian blinds a fraction of an inch so that the tiniest little sliver of sunlight peaks through to the floor.

But when you have a great ear for music, it's just like you can see outside into the same rolling green hills, icy blue rivers and snow-capped mountain peaks that the greatest musicians draw inspiration from on a daily basis!

How will you get your lightening bolt? Let me tell you about a remarkably effective way...

But first let me connect the dots for you and tell you why absolute pitch will make you the bad-ass musician you've always wanted to be...

When you have absolute pitch, literally a fraction of a second after a note is played, you know exactly where you are on the scale. So when you're listening to music and you hear something you really like, you can analyze why you like the sound of it and begin to use it immediately in your own music. That means you can learn and improve at the speed of sound!

If you're playing with other musicians or at an important audition, you can respond instantly to whatever they throw at you. That gives you serious respect as a professional and most likely much better paying gigs.

Chances are you've had an experience like this: You're daydreaming — maybe while driving — and a beautiful melody or catchy song idea comes to you. And it's unlike anything you've ever heard before! And since it's so original, you can't recognize it because you have no reference point. But with absolute pitch, you know exactly what it is you're hearing and you'll never lose those great ideas again!

(I recommend keeping something to record your ideas with you at all times because you're going to have some amazing stuff come to you in the most unlikely places — and you must be prepared to capture them!)

Absolute Pitch Myths
Steer clear of anyone who tells you this...

Myth 1: You must be born with absolute pitch.

How did this myth develop? No one knows for sure but if you ask someone with absolute pitch how or when they learned it, they'll probably tell you, “I don't remember. I've just always had it.” But this doesn't mean they were born with it. They probably just learned it at a very early age, before they were conscious of such things. I mean, I definitely don't remember learning my colors and most people that I ask say the same thing. And, of course, we will never know the names of pitches unless we eventually learn them.

Research by Dr. Ernst Terhardt supports the idea that everybody is born with absolute pitch:

“So it appears that, in a sense, the ability of AP in principle is implanted in every human, but is easily lost in infancy and/or childhood when it is not maintained and developed by training in naming musical tones.”

Which brings us to...

Myth 2: Absolute pitch cannot be developed.

Even the German composer and music theorist, Paul Hindemith (1895-1963), believed that absolute pitch could be developed. Dr. Terhardt also writes that, “AP can be learned - or one should rather say, developed or activated.” He also states, “...it seems fairly safe to suppose that AP development in “genuine” AP possessors may be not fundamentally different from that in adults, and that the relative stability of the faculty in genuine AP possessors is explained by the early age of development.”

But the research seems to say that absolute pitch won't be as stable if you're an adult, right? Not exactly...

Myth 3: Adults cannot develop absolute pitch.

Dr. Terhardt mentions the “relative stability” of absolute pitch learned at an early age. Well, this make a lot of sense. If you've been playing basketball longer than me, then you probably have a better grasp of the game. But if I learn the game well enough, there will come a point at which we can agree that we're both playing the game of basketball. It's the same with absolute pitch.

The main difference is in the way that adults learn. A child can learn absolute pitch by simple repetition. They're like sponges. Children hardly require any effort. They have yet to learn that learning is hard.

Here's the story: In the early 1970s an information scientist, Richard Bandler, and a linguistics professor, John Grinder, created a technology called Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). And this is the model that I've successfully used to teach absolute pitch to my private students (...which, by the way, I rarely accept anymore because my time is just too darn valuable... and expensive).

I am an accountant in my busy tax season right now so I can't put in as much effort as I would like to, but I have noticed my ear is tuning in to the sounds of pitches better and I believe my singing is more on pitch.
